Draws inspiration from the Past to Produce the Future

Quick Update

I leave for Mexico on January 4th. I will be doing a Travel J-term to Mexico.

The course is described as:

This travel seminar will focus on the local and regional culture of Jalisco, a state 600 miles from the Mexico-U.S. border, where students will explore the presence and effects of North American culture through onsite engagement with industry, business, NGOs, cultural institutions and government.  Students will examine and critically analyze the ethical considerations of how North American culture is present, marketed and branded in this area by using the medium of their choice to produce projects that capture how American culture has shaped, and continues to shape, contemporary Mexican culture.

It includes site visits to Downtown Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tonala, Tlaquepaque, MIND, TecSite, IBM, Chapala, the Tequila Regulator Council, Tequila, and Puerto Vallarta.

The course involves critical writing and a final project. I am hoping to do mine on the Film industry and how Hollywood has impacted the types of films and what is shown in Mexico or on Historical relations between US and Mexico and how the two cultures subsequently influence each other. Either way, I am certain history will be involved.

I am excited to work on my Spanish and learn more about Mexico. I hope that this Course prepares me for subsequent classes in Colonial Latin America and Modern Mexico.

Stay tuned for another update at the end of January.
