Draws inspiration from the Past to Produce the Future

Nebraska Historical Society

When this internship first began I didn’t think they would end so quickly. But I was hired to do a project and that project is finished. I believe that all that has to be done is for the society to finalize everything and release the project for the general public. When it is release I’ll add a youtube link on my resume page to show what I archived.

Saltdogs

When first starting this internship we were told that later in the season there would be opportunities to work at other stations within the production crew.

Recently the stadium hosted a Select Showcase. It was a sort of mini tournament between the AA and AAA 14U boys teams in town (Lincoln). There were three games and three positions to run to keep everything on track – Director, Cam 1, and Graphics – I had the opportunity to work at each station.

Graphics

This was the first position I worked and the first time I had truly run graphics during a game. I was a bit indifferent to this position, I knew I could do it due to our work during the normal Saltdogs games but at the same time, I hadn’t done it before. Everything went fine. As long you pay attention, which I don’t know why you wouldn’t, Graphics is a nice position to be in. Yes, there wasn’t as much to do as during a normal game but it was good practice and I’m glad I started out the showcase in this position.

Cam 1

This was the second position I worked. It was the one I was most comfortable with because I had run the camera before in J57: video production. And I had run camera for live production for the Drake Relays and the Student Senate Live production. This was the only camera with an actual operator the rest were positioned before the game. The only real problem I had with this was keeping track of the ball, especially in the sunnier parts of the ballpark. But within the first inning, I had gotten the hang of keeping track of the ball mostly because these are AA and AAA 14u teams – they are good for their age but not the level of the Saltdogs.

Directing

This was the last position I worked. I was nervous because I’ve seldom had the opportunity to direct in the past. The only time I have directed was in my J57: video production class and directing a live production is much different. But all that said after two innings I got the hang of it. Because the live production was a sport and the set up was only using the movement of one camera the production became methodic. It was easy to predict what camera to use when due to the knowledge of the set up of the game and how a baseball game is played. Unfortunately, I do not have the footage from the game I directed due to technical difficulties.
